History of the Logo

The central symbol of the Scottish Family Heritage logo represents a unique 16th century enamelled gold button, that was discovered at Fast Castle, Berwickshire in 1976, during excavations undertaken by the Edinburgh Archaeological Field Society. It has a diameter of only 15mm.

The button is now exhibited in the new building of the National Museums of Scotland, Chambers Street, Edinburgh.

The image is taken from an original photograph courtesy of the Trustees of the National Museums of Scotland.
